MISTER BISHAN NELSON LEE CROWNED MISTER SINGAPORE 2009
DURING THE PAGEANT HELD AT ZIRCA ON OCTOBER 9

Singapore, October 9, 2009 - This evening, during one of the year's most exciting annual events, a star-studded panel of judges chose Mister Bishan Nelson Lee as MISTER SINGAPORE 2009 at the 10th Annual MISTER SINGAPORE pageant from Zirca.

22-year-old Nelson was born in Singapore but migrated to Melbourne, Australia when he was 10. He was also a national swimmer and tennis player with the Victoria All Boys team. Due to national service, he returned to his birth place to serve his duties. After completing his degree in Biomedical Science from Bradford University, Nelson worked as a scientist and hopes to advance in the field of Biomedical Research and Development. He was also voted one of 50 most gorgeous men in Singapore last year.

The judging panel for the MISTER SINGAPORE 2009 pageant included: Shenzi Chua, Founder and Director of NewUrbanMale.com; George Leong, renown music composer, producer and arranger; Chris Chew, Owner of fitness portal SgFitness.com; Ken Hong, award winning hairstylist and Creative Director of Anthony Hair Boutique; Lim Yi Fang, Senior Marketing Executive of Cannery Leisure; Longcheng Low; Chairman for Love, a fundraising gala organized by Action for AIDS; and Clarissa Ellice Rae Lim, Miss Singapore Global City 2007.

Throughout the two-hour event, the contestants competed in three categories: swimwear, evening wear and interview. During these competitions, the “Top Five” were selected before the crowning. MISTER SINGAPORE 2008 Alex Zhang crowned his successor at the conclusion of the two-hour pageant, before an estimated viewing audience of more than 1,200.

Final Results:

First Runner-up: Mister Punggol Tang Jin Wei, will assume the duties of MISTER SINGAPORE 2009 if the Titleholder is named MISTER INTERNATIONAL 2009 or for some reason cannot fulfill his duties.

Second Runner-up: Mister Tampines Kingsley Ang

Mister Congeniality Singapore Award: Mister Tampines Kingsley Ang. The award reflects the respect and admiration of the contestant’s peers, who voted for him as the most congenial, charismatic and inspirational contestant. He was awarded a $ 250 cash prize.

Mister Spirit Singapore Award: Mister Bukit Batok Allan Loh. This award is presented to the contestant selected for his outstanding qualities such as character, sportsmanship, achievement, personal growth, and a willingness to promote the positive aspects of competition. He was awarded a $ 250 cash prize.

NewUrbanMale.com Ambassador Award: Mister Tampines Kingsley Ang. This is presented to the contestant who best represents the style of NewUrbanMale.com. He was awarded a $ 500 shopping spree from NewUrbanMale.com.

Thomas D'Esthetique Face Award: Mister Bishan Nelson Lee. This is presented to the contestant who best represents the image of Thomas D'Esthetique. He was awarded skin and body care services valued at $ 1,000 from Thomas D’Esthetique.

MISTER SINGAPORE 2009 CONTESTANTS

ANG MO KIO – Adrian Chia, a 21-year-old NSF who is looking forward on getting a pilot’s license.

BEDOK – Sid Hamid, 27, works with children with special needs and has just published his first children picture book.

BISHAN – Nelson Lee, 22, a qualified scientist who was a national swimmer and tennis player with the Victoria All Boys team in Australia.

BUKIT BATOK – Allan Loh, 24, has a strong interest in Mathematics and has even scored distinction in the Math Olympiad.

CLEMENTI – Julian Wong, 25, is a musician who is currently working on a CD.

HOUGANG – Seek Kah How, 20, is an army officer who plans to become a researcher in nanotechnology and clean technology.

JURONG - Darryl Goh, 22, is a Computer Engineering student who sees himself owning a photography and videography studio one day.

MARINE PARADE – Nicholas Teo, 24, hopes to run his very own beachside watering hole while sipping Malibu Pineapple and watching the sunset.

PASIR RIS – Zameer Malik, 22, is a sports fashion promoter who finished 3rd in the Asian X Games Junior BMX in 2001.

PUNGGOL – Tang Jin Wei, 22, is a personal trainer who is committed to improving other people’s quality of life.

SEMBAWANG – Koh Mingxuan, 19, is an army officer who says that his role helps him to be responsible and disciplined.

SENGKANG – Isaac Wong, 25, is a business development manager who in the future sees himself as a leader and heads a business unit and corporation.

SERANGOON – Troy Teo, 25, is a personal trainer who says that although he is one of the shortest contestants in this pageant, he more or less makes up for it with his big heart.

TAMPINES – Kingsley Ang, 21, loves to stay active and enjoys all kinds of sports, learning and exploring new things.

TOA PAYOH - Ash Akthar, 22, considers himself a friend of all animals and wants to have his own shelter taking care of abandon animals.

WOODLANDS – Jovin Lim, 22, is a naval officer who grew up and spent a large of his life in Texas. The United States is like his second home and he has many good friends there.
